enjoying life on life terms

Hi blog family!

don't forget my book price has been lowered because shipping is expensive and i would give it for free if i could find a way!! www.createspace.com/3587372 for your copy!

How do we enjoy life on life terms after abandonment, abuse, neglect and for some, no family?

Like NIKE says: JUST DO IT!!
There is nothing stopping you from enjoying the VERY moment you are in!

You decide if you will be angry, mad, violent, sad, depressed, lonely or not active in your own life!!
When you wake each day thank the creator for your life, for it is special and meant for divine purpose!
If a family member, friend, spouse, mate or worker is treating you wrong OR your clashing every time you talk or meet---ITS ONLY MIS-COMMNICAT-ION!!! = THEY ARE NOT HEARING WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AND YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO WHAT THEY ARE SAYING OR UNDERSTANDING THE MESSAGE THEY WANT TO GIVE!!
No matter if mean mother-in-law
child that won't listen
spouse that hurts you (although they have other issues...control, learned behavior or reaction from an action they saw as a child)
Find ways to accept your family member for what and who they are (even the bad, (unless they are hurting others physically)
find ways to deal with your boss who is a control freak, accept WHATEVER others  flaws may be, because if you dig deep, we all have some.

*** It is NOT our job to CHANGE anyone, each lesson in life is different for ALL of us!!! No one can learn MY lesson and I CANNOT, repeat, CANNOT learn another's lesson!!!!!!

If you remember this fact, life will be way easier and less chasing, arguing, proving, groaning, and analyzing wrong doers!!!
Live on life terms (as they say in the rooms)lol.. meet ALL people, places & things.....WHERE THEY ARE AT!! ENJOY TODAY, DON'T WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, LOVE YOUR LOUD FRIEND AND SUGGEST THEY JOIN THE THEATER...LOL... JK YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN....:) ENJOY LIFE, YOU ONLY GET ONE!! PLAN WELL FOR YOU, NOT OTHERS AND LIFE WILL BE A JOY!! XOXO

PS. SMILE SOMEONE IS WATCHING YOU!!!! (AND LEARNING)..:)

Words from Tony Robbins on Own...

Hi blog family!
I like to give credit when do AND if someone else can say something to save or change your life........I let them speak and share what they say!
Tony Robbins is a brilliant man who gets "how to live and enjoy life".... I got this from Oprah's own, (forgive me O) lol... but good stuff must be shared!!! enjoy!!

The life coach and host of Breakthrough with Tony Robbins believes in living a passionate life, a life in which fear is a counselor, not a jailer. Here, he shows us how to "step up" during our most intimidating moments:
1. Don't Turn an Excuse into an Identity
We need be careful of how we label ourselves, for example, saying "I'm an fearful person" or "I'm a weak person" or "I'm not a strong person." Usually that label comes from your current or past behavior, but once the label becomes a part of you, it starts to control you. So what I try to get people to understand is: Hey, you're not broken. You don't need to be fixed. You don't need a label. All you need to do is say, "I have to decide how I want to be now going forward."

2. Develop a Habit
Courage is not the absence of fear. That idea is the biggest b.s. in the world. Fear is impossible to eradicate. If you were completely fearless, you'd be dead. People who are courageous are scared to the core—they just make themselves go forward anyway; they make themselves take some kind of action. Taking action, even though you're afraid, is how you become courageous—because courage, like fear, is a habit. The more you do it, the more you do it, and this habit—of stepping up, of taking action—more than anything else, will move you in a different direction.

3. Let Your Body Lead the Way
Taking that action for the first time can be pretty rough. When it comes time to give the speech to the committee or snowboard down the mountain, don't hesitate. Don't start to analyze it. The longer you stand there, the harder it gets, because then your mind gets involved. If your challenge is mental, use your body. If it's in the body, use your body more aggressively. At 17 years old, I was on my own, sleeping in a laundry room. I had no idea what to do. I was so depressed. Fear is physically debilitating. I had to defeat it. So I made myself run until I thought I was going to spit up blood. I got stronger in my body, which, in turn gave me mental strength.

back to the point...... (lol)
save the date: May 18th 2-4
Place:  Mount Kisco Library, (conference room 2nd fl).. (RSVP)

if you are aging out of foster care in NY and going to trade school or college, please give me your email so i can send you the application!!!!

Attitude is everything, we want you to apply or tell kids to apply that are aging out in June!!! My brother believed everyone deserves a chance and not everyone is an "A" student....we agree so as long as they got into a school (trade or college), you can have them apply (this is to all the social workers, counselors)...lol...
Fosterkidsunite, will be having its 2nd annual "Robert Cooper Memorial Scholarship" awards ceremony!!  We are still trying to surpass our goal from last year, with the help of Robs friends, we hope to raise enough to award more than 4 aging out this year!!!!
Aside from giving a few young people a stipend for college or trade school, we will also be honoring a Rev from one of the largest residences and a Boys and Girls Club Director, both of whom have done major work with foster and group home kids!
We are hoping to raise awareness on the state of foster kids and how you can help as a community! May is National Foster care awareness month!

Thought for the day: Never allow anyone to steal your joy, be that your smile, your kindness, your patience or your understanding - life is meant to be joyful, loving and prosperous and you should live your life surrounding these principles- even on a day when someone attempts to ruin it!
Remember life is short but that's OK if you enjoyed it and did all you could to be the best you!

smile, someone is watching you....and do all YOU can while YOU can....with WHAT resources YOU have!!!

thinking out of the box

Hi blog family!

hope you enjoy this beautiful day, made just for you! I found an old pic from Paris with my kids..that i have posted before..but today,

thought of the day:
I was thinking of  the 1st time I went to Paris to model (years ago!),  I had only been one other time before to visit..I did not know anyone. I knew my birth grandpa had ties but i did not know anyone, until I got off the plane!
I had just officially "aged out" of foster care,  (i signed myself back into a place at 18 because i had no family and no where to go).....
I was at one of the best fashion school's in NYC and had no money to finish, so when someone from the model's club , (a designer) told me to go on faith,  I packed my bags with $250 and a plane ticket and went!
I found an agent in less than a week, found friends that took care of me better than any family! And I found that life is a big "lottery" waiting for you to win IF you go out of your comfort zone!!

I realize sometimes you have to step out of "THE BOX" - the traditional way of doing things...to get what you were destined for! Once you step out and look across the room at the box, you will say.....that box is SO small!

Take good chances and try doing things a little different if your not getting results, life has great plans for you if you keep showing up everyday and keep trying....WE NEVER GIVE UP!! XO

enjoying the simple things

Hi blog family!
today is very easy.
How often do you get to enjoy the simple things in life after foster care?
Put down the worry and breath!
Nothing is worth stressing over,
example: even if i was going homeless, if i did not have the rent money or a job - stressing would NOT change the fact that i will lose my home....only ACTION will change the situation.
Perhaps you would have to go to a shelter or sleep on a friends couch BUT this is still not the worse! If you are breathing, have sound mind, sound judgement and use of your limbs (basic ones), I say you have endless possibilities!! Our ancestors went thru 50x worse than we are experiencing (slavery/Holocaust/potato famine etc..)...
Hold your head high and never be defeated!
As long as you have today.....smile, be happy and plan for a better future!!
If anyone just aged out of foster care please contact me or leave me your email -
 thanks
xo Tanya

abusive relationships

Hi blog family!

I saw that a young lady was gunned down by her baby's father yesterday and thought i should go over relationships-one more time, (1st was with Rhianna and Chris Brown).

I will give MY views on early signs of an abuser...or mate/friend that is NOT good for you!

1st. in ANY relationship....no one should be yelling at you!!!
have ears to hear and God made you a voice to use and a mind to use...
2. checking your phone, want to know who is calling, why, when--even family!!!
3. showing up in places you did not invite them too!! stalker
4. asking over and over the same question, where were you etc....interrogation!!!
5. telling you insults- how "ugly, stupid, fat, lazy etc..... repeatedly!!! trying to put you down (at first they may not do it the first date but if you listen, usually you will see a sign the 1st day!!!!!!! (think back real hard)..
6. Pushing, shoving, hitting, etc... NO ONE has a right to put their hands on you!!! Even if you are caught in a situation with another mate---NO one should EVER hit you (if you are DEFENDING/PROTECTING yourself, that is different!!! You are a human being and you were made DIFFERENT than animals because YOU have a MOUTH!!!! Talking is how you solve problems, not violence and anyone who says different, RUN!!!! This world is lacking love and understanding and until we realize WAR of ANY kind NEVER solves problems... we will always be back at square one!!

Think: if war solved problems or fighting--why does it produce revenge  and hatred that last for hundreds of years (Israel and Palestine, just ONE example)...
war / fighting never solves anything DO NOT waste your precious life fighting anyone or being in the company of violent beings!!! xoxo
You are special and loved- smile, someone is watching you!!!!! Tanya

people, places and things

Hi blog family!
pls forgive error, I LOVE adoptuskids.org they are an outstanding organization that does great work to help foster kids get adopted!!!

I will be short today.
Have you experience people that ALWAYS have something negative to say? Are you a  person that ALWAYS complains....(think real hard)...
Perhaps you grew up in a place with a negative environment (people always thinking you never did "good" enough, perhaps they always downed you and told you negative things OR never told you anything YOU did good, right or better than usual...
Maybe you were around an abusive partner..(I know many who ran away from group homes, only to fall into "victim" mode by linking up with an abusive partner)..
If any of this applies to you, no worries... this is the good thing about waking up EVERY day- you can change your reality!! I can't imagine growing up in a negative place! How can we expect someone to be "positive" if this is not how they grew up? change your reality!

As of today; stop being around naysayers...people who always have bad things to say ALL the time!! People who only see the bad in a situation....never the good! People who always want you to  "hang out" in bad places! If you want your life to be productive, fruitful and filled with joy and love....first start with getting rid of negative people who say and or want you to do bad things and be in places that will cost you your freedom or put bad thoughts in your head... Life is short, why waste it on bad things OR anything that does NOT help you grow as a person?
Find people who may not give compliments all day BUT do point out your good traits or actions!
Find places to go that make your mind strong and your soul happy...(looking at art, a concert, a walk in nature, the ocean, good book, there are many good things to do in this life and many good people, find them!
If you come from an abusive relationships or past, you have to work harder because your mind was trained to think and do negative by your abuser or in that abusive environment.
Even if you watched abuse, it plays a part in your life; some will NOT be like there abusers, others will gravitate toward partners/friends...just like their past...You can change that by practicing and committing to surrounding yourself with love and peaceful people...fall back on the yellers, liars, manipulators, stalkers, deceivers, abusers....

I always say: show me your "friends" and I will see you!"
I have hung around all types of people, I never judge by your situation but by how you treat others...poor, rich, homeless, even if your doing a job I don't agree with- you must have a good trait somewhere for me to have you as my friend!
I learned when i was homeless, never judge a book by its cover but how it reads..... lol..
find good people who are positive and
try not to surround yourself with anyone who talks negative all the time, it rubs off!

You are a gift to this world, you are loved and its your turn to enjoy life!! :)

smile, someone is watching you! lol..xo

below is some of this text in french...there are orphanages in all countries (they are still called that many places, not group homes... sometimes if i see I have  readers who are from other countries, i will post in those languages...)

Hi blog family!

 La mia Famiglia!
my family! Meine famille! ma famille! mijn famille!mnha familia!MOR cembeR!
Since my brothers death, there are times I feel alone but thankfully, I have my girls and a host of good friends and neighbors!!!

As many of you who have been in the system know..sometimes, even when your older, you long to be adopted or belong to a family.
Money/inheritance has nothing to do with it many have said.
It is the fact that we are human and ALL human beings have a need to belong.
Unfortunately, when your parents give you away or leave you when your young, this sense never gets met. I believe there is no greater love than a mothers.... or someone like a mother...
If you are like me and had no "home" to go to for the holiday like the other kids did in the group home on the weekends, you may still feel lonely on holidays, birthdays or when you see a nice family enjoying each other.
NO WORRY"S!! Good news is.....this feeling can be lessened.
1st. NEVER be jealous of ANYONE for ANYTHING--especially when you see a great family!
feel happy for them, and pray they appreciate each other!!
Jealousy is NEVER a good trait.
Why?
Because all you do is envy that person, place or thing and you do so much envying, you never get your own!! Now that you are leaving or have left, its all about YOUR life and what YOU need, if you worrying about what they have, you miss your blessings AND you don't focus on things like: how can I make a better family than my parents did? how can I raise my kids with more responsibility and action in there life that will leave a good legacy??
Remember if you are in foster care, God (or the universe (for those who are not religious, i must respect that).. You have another purpose, that is NOT the same as the kid with two parents!!!
Pay attention to why you are placed in THAT home, it may be the difference between you thinking it was "just a home" and you knowing why "that" home was chosen by the universe!!
perhaps  your group home counselor (like my last one when I got signed  back to a group home at 18), will change your views enough to change your life! Maybe your foster mother, (like mine) is a minister and you help type up sermons (OK... lol..this was before Mac's")..and now you become the best public speaker, from watching her!!
You never know but i can assure you just like you have divine purpose, so does your group home parent, foster parent or special counselors and social workers!!
If you grew up with no family, by now you should know:

You can choose good friends who love and cherish you...
how will u know?
because they reciprocate (look that word up please)..they give back to you, just as much as you give!!! These friends are loyal, loving, and would NEVER do anything to harm you, your health or your sanity!!
These are the people you unofficially adopt as family!! I have many friends from other Country's that have no family here, I always have their backs because, I know how that feels!
I have a few friends that I can call on if I am hungry, angry, sad or need a hug, the same role family would play!!
It is wise to choose GOOD friends!
Don't ever be desperate to just "hang" with anyone...you are special and you should only surround yourself around special people!!
To get out of "NOT" liking holidays and birthdays....throw a party!!!
Yes, with whatever, whoever you have...buy yourself something special on your day or the holiday....if you want your friends to do it that's OK but you should be the same friend that you want!!
Life is one big lesson, you made it out and those who are in, your are able to read this blog, so your good, you are learning how to be a better you! You should always be happy for others with family and you should be choosing good friends that can fill those roles for you in a healthy way....(not gangs) gangs is a false love that almost always ends with handicap, revenge, turf wars, jail or the morgue....Anyone who loves you, will not have you murder, steal or lie...that's real talk!
This is your life, make good rules for yourself and find the key people you need in your life to help you grow as a person....you are loved, special and smile, somebody is watching you- you may save or change a life!!! xo Tanya

How old? warning for parents

how old? warning for parents

Hi - to those that were in foster care and now may have children!!
I am sure you heard about the young boy killed walking alone to school....just 8 years old!!

My words today are: please don't allow your kids to walk anywhere alone under 13 years old!! if you were a foster kid or lived in the group homes- you know first hand vultures are always waiting for you!! They know you don't have family-which makes you easy pray. Remember those lessons for your kids-you will need them!!
There are some advantages to growing up in the group homes- you are less likely to approach a car because your innocence is gone and your instinct kicks in when you see trouble!!
Even at 10 with a buddy/family member perhaps.
8 is way too young, there are no decision making skills, this is why the poor boy not only went to a car for help, but got in!
He is innocent and did not know how to "judge" anyone, as far as he was concerned, the world was perfect and he was loved.
Usually - (unless they come from a horrible background of abuse/violence etc..) Crime never enters a "basic family raised" 8 year old  mind because he/she is at a precious age of innocence and usually has been protected.

It was his parents job to protect him from monsters like this!
No one can ever be 100% safe but this was an unfortunate price for a parent to pay for "letting your kid find themselves and be grown up"...
*A few kids parents stated he tried to get them in the car....this guy is a serious pedophile and it would not shock me if they find more victims....and if they don't its because he "got rid of the evidence".

How do we as parents avoid this? Don't allow your kids to walk alone anywhere and don't leave them in the care of strangers OR people they ARE NOT comfortable with!! Especially foster kids, they will not usually tell you someone is threatening or hurting them...they don't want to be "moved again" or lose the only home they liked!!
I knew a man who told me his mothers best friend use to make him perform" acts while she babysit!! I have heard this many times, sad part is, they never told there parents they were only 9 and 10 years old..she was 40...clearly a female pedophile!!
I wonder how many more this monster hurt?......
think before we act as parents, it is our job to provide love, protect and keep safe...
thanks Tanya

moving....again

ok i admit i am NOT a techy!! i am talking like a bruce lee flick, but you get the point so watch!!

My book is ready at:  creatspace.com surviving foster care and making it work for you!

Hi bog family!

for those that are in another group home: I did a short vid for you above but for those that like to read:

What are your priority's when you move to another home??

1. Be Safe
2. Make good choices on PPT: people you meet, places you go and the things you do in your spare time - your time is very valuable and you only have so many years before you "age out"!!

Watch for positive people: they will say things like: you can, great job, your smart, that's hot, we can do this!!!

Negative will say: no, no way, you can't, impossible, why??
Never roll with anyone that is not thinking positive and saying postive!! This is why I don't like gangs, they work because they know you are desperate for "family" feeling or sense of belonging BUT I will tell you YOU can belong by choosing good friends and getting out to good events to meeet new good, people!!!

Smile, someone is watching you that just came in, make a good impression so they will do the same!!

For those that were in care and moved alot:

Moving is a good way to get to know people, find a job in sales or marketing you are a master at knowing people and various cultures ...atleast two latino and african american in NY and "other" if your from midwest or other areas...It is very HELPFUL to be around allot of people, you learn personality's, how to deal with others, and how to work as a team player!

Foster Parents/Counselors: please continue to be patient, it is hard moving around and leaving old familiar people and places. feeling may get bottled up, teach them how to express themselves and that it is ok to miss friends and old homes. Teach them how to make new friends, take a chance on being more open and taking risk, its ok if the new person turned out to be a dud, next.......xo

Take advantage by finding a job that uses your people skills!! Have a great day, you are all loved and special!! xo Tanya

Tanya in the Journal News!

Former Bedford foster child honors her late brother by helping others

Comments
BEDFORD HILLS — At one point when Tanya Cooper was reading to her brother from the draft of her book about surviving foster care with a smile, her brother said: 'Coop, I think you are really going to do something here. This is going to save lives or change lives.'"
A year-and-a-half since the sudden death of that dear brother Robert Cooper to heart disease at age 41, Tanya Cooper is ready to test his prediction, starting with an outreach event planned in his honor at the Mount Kisco Library.
"This is about changing the way people think," says Cooper, 46, a Bedford Hills mother of two and an advocate who credits the Bedford community for enriching her life as a foster child. "Foster kids come in scared and frightened because they never know what is going to happen next."
That is saying a lot in Cooper's case. At the time she was placed in foster care, she and her baby brother Robert were being raised in Brooklyn by their 7-year-old sister, because their mother would disappear for days on drug binges.
There were good days in foster care and days she endured rape and death threats at the hands of her foster brothers, Cooper says.
"I want people to understand how someone feels in foster care," Cooper says. "It feels like an alien abduction."
Cooper's library event, planned for Wednesday during National Foster Care Month, is about trying to reach local children in foster care with a message that they are destined for special purposes. Even more, it is about reaching families in Westchester and Putnam counties with a message that little acts of kindness mean everything to a foster child.
"Something as simple as paying a kid a compliment can go so far," Cooper syas. "Foster kids don't get any acknowledgment except when they are doing something bad."
A highlight of the library event will be the inaugural Robert Cooper Memorial Scholarship presentation to a local foster child whose hope and positive spirit are part of a dream to succeed after he or she ages out of the system.
The memorial scholarship was created in a partnership with Megan Castellano of Carmel, the executive director of the Mental Health Association in Putnam County, and a high school friend of Robert Cooper's.
"He did a lot to lift up my self-esteem and what I didn't realize until I was older was that he was doing that for me and for others while he was having a hard time himself," Castellano said.
The hope is that after the $250 scholarship money is gone, the moment will linger for foster kids that they are heard and appreciated and supported, Castellano said.
In addition to the scholarship announcement and other awards that will be presented at the library event, Cooper will read from her book, "Surviving Foster Care and Making It Work for You!"
An extension of her two foster kids' blogs and her public speaking, the book sets guidelines for enjoying foster-care life and preparing for independence.
Anecdotally, it is also the story of how education, faith and friends helped Cooper make the transition from foster care to college and a career, so that she was able to give back.
Whatever her crisis, her brother Robert was always there, telling her not to give up, even as he waged his own battle with substance abuse.
"I didn't want every anniversary of his death to come around and say 'Oh, my poor brother,' " Cooper says. "This helps me stay positive and helps me to know that his death won't be in vain."

message delivered for national foster care awareness month

hi blog family!
Today was wonderful! I was able to deliver a message  to Westchester County-glad we are all on the same page. Foster care has grown since 1971.  Our kids are blessed and should take full advantage of where they are at!! I am grateful my mom gave me away, she was sick but I am completing my purpose and I am grateful she birthed me. Be grateful today, especially if you ARE in care, you could have ended up like lisa steinberg or be in the ghetto's of soweto or in India, getting married off at 9 because the family has no money! Things could always be worse, be grateful for EVERYTHING in your life, even the bad, because it will motivate you (when the pain is great enought) to TRY something new or find a new way out!!! Find ways to enjoy this life, it is short and you must complete your divine purpose, go out an enjoy the world, dont let anyone or anything stop you, you are it!! xo Tanya

unemployed when times are hard

Hi blog family!

If you are among the millions looking for work...take a number, relax. When your out of work you can feel that time is going slow. ..it is..
it may be the universe telling you to get up, get out and do something (like Macy Gray said in her song)! Perhaps you need change of a career, spiritual awakening, change the way you are approaching the job hunt?? Change can be good, if you have patience...

When looking for work for more than a few months:

You may feel your talent or skills are less than...they are not.
Company's are holding their budget money, so they are not hiring and if they are, part-time, so they don't have to give benefits... this is reality but it does not have to mean hope is over.. view it as a good thing to motivate you to achieve your life purpose goal!!! let this downtime INSPIRE you to take action- your action....you always wanted to start a business......i say go for it if its something like making earrings... you can sell in any city...in the parks, especially during festivals...you can get an offical permit by applying through your city government website....everyone must pay taxes.... but you decide how much you make by how many hours you put in..just remember to save for a rainy day...retirement...and put money to the side for doctors......(no healthcare) when u have your own business BUT you are the boss!!!

The jobs i see for the future is those of you that have an extra talent:
singing,  (go to the clubs, look for a band to be the lead singer in...good money...usually CASH!)(sorry uncle sam...)lol...
making jewelry,
writing,  sell your work on Lulu.com or creatspace.com  for FREE just write it and upload!! you set the price!!
drawing/art etc..
stand-up comedy
musician (get your own gigs at bamitzfa'a, weddings, school affairs....
I think we may go back to the times when we fended for ourselves with our god given talents...Don't be frightend, find out what YOU do well and how to turn it into cash!! Keep thinking positive and only watch positive movies. Surround yourself with people that beleive in you and encourage you when your down..

You are special, talented and a gift to this earth, smile, someone is watching you...xo Tanya

book link AND self love

Hi blog family-
My book is finally available!! https://www.createspace.com/3587372
any agency that buys more than 50 copies- i will come and do a book signing AND Free workshop--just get me there!!!

Ok i am still searching for a publisher- but if you know me, that cannot stop me from sharing this book with the 450,000 or so teens in foster care!

Never let anyone or anything stop your message or pure intention to help save or change a life!!!!

I speak to all of you today, in group home, left, foster parent...teach our kids to LOVE themselves and to HELP others who may be in the same situation.....other foster kids! Reach one teach one- the system only gets better when WE help each other and take control of our lives--mentally and physically!!!

We all have divine purpose, as i often say, what is yours? How can your agency or foster parents help you find your purpose? By: listening--you talking about painting, biking, singing etc... all the time,  when a kid practices something on his/her own ALL the time...chances are they are going toward that purpose...

understand that my gift is not your gift so there is NEVER any competition!! What you do- you do- what I do- I do...Mariah Carey sings different than Adel...but both are brilliant and touch many souls with their singing.....you get the point

Listen to YOU - Parents- listen to your child- teach your child to listen and follow their own instincts...it will lead them to their true gift, which will help them fulfill their divine purpose!!

You are loved, special and needed by this universe to do something great!!! smile, someone is watching you!! xo Tanya
