Victim 'aged out' of system

POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Oct 25, 2010

Erwin Viado Celes hanged himself last month, just six months after he "aged out" of Hawaii's foster care system, and now his friends are trying to raise enough money to pay for his funeral and burial.
Celes' suicide highlights the sudden gap that island foster children frequently fall into once they become legal adults but have no reliable support or even a bed of their own, said David Louis, executive director of the nonprofit group Heart Gallery Hawaii, which works to find resources for foster children.

Services for Erwin Viado Celes

» Where: Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 91-1004 North Road, Ewa Beach
» When: Visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. Mass at 11 a.m. Burial at 1:30 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park.
» To donate:Donations may be made at any Bank of Hawaii branch or to Heart Gallery Hawaii, 3554 Aliamanu St., Honolulu, HI 96818. Checks should include the phrase "For Erwin Viado Celes" in the memo line.
When he turned 18, Celes received court approval to stay in Hawaii's foster care system for another year -- until his 19th birthday on March 12, Louis said.
After leaving his foster family, Celes bounced between homes in Waianae, Mililani and Waipahu until he was found dead Sept. 7 in Hawaii Kai, said Elena Raymond, Celes' friend and co-worker.
Celes spent 14 years in foster care and "didn't talk about it a lot," Raymond said, "but he would tell us bits and pieces about being in foster homes."
Louis called Celes' suicide "a preventable tragedy."

on meds and want to get off?

Hi blog family!
I want all of you who are on medication to know that---you can get off! I am not a doctor and I donnot know everyone's situation but I know many people who were on hardcore meds and got off. I believe if you are suicidal or homicidal--you may need meds because we don't want you hurting yourself or anyone else over an illusion or a problem that seemed important--but was not worth you going to jail or heaven early!!
You have to learn to meditate--why? becaue it helps you clear your head of extra voices, thoughts, ideas and garbage!!
The brain is thinking ALL the time!!! In my opinion no one is "crazy" they just allowed too many thoughts to enter--that were bad thoughts and they allowed their spirit to die--the "thing" that tells you not to do something because it is bad... follow me.... We all have had crazy thoughts or thoughts that we knew could get us in the mental ward if we followed the thought---so with that no one is "crazy" they just listen to the bad or evil spirits--which could come from childhood issues that were never talked about...mental, physical or sexual abuse etc.. the mind is reacting to a trauma and sometimes I believe people create other charectors in their head to protect themselves from the pain they are having....
If you are a person on meds for depression, bipolar, anxiety, whatever the reason...if you do mental conditioning..(retraining your brain...anthony robbins,, awaken the giant--read it__) you CAN get off meds BUT you have to do month, sometimes years of work..depending on how long you supressed your feelings of anger, helplessness, fear etc..... it does not happen overnight and you will be doing mental work to get through!
THere are people who will always need meds--and that is ok --if you are going to therapy and really sharing to help yourself with past issues...the mind can do ANYTHING you want it too....ask those who survived the holocausst and slavery (well the ancestors)....how were they able after being abused for years in camps and prisioners of war--how were they able to function during and after the abuse??? they did it with thier mnds!!! Nelson Mandela, how did he release his anger, fear and go on to run a great country..(that was taken)...??? so many people have survived being "out of their minds" during an autrosoty--so can you... take the word depression out of your language--replace it with "I am being challenged today"....don't let anyone tell you how you feel!!! start by telling yourself you are grateful for your life and a chance to go out and change the world EVERy day you get up and breadth---many did not make it through the night!! the universe needs you--wake up and take back your life!!
Stay positive-start youtubing self help guru's like anthony robbins--change your mind--change your life!!

vote? tv show for aged out kids??

Hi blog family Ex-model former foster kid here!

I have been busy trying to change the face of foster care!
Please go to Oprah.com  and vote for my video "Transitional House"- a show idea i had for a while.

I am hoping to be picked because while I always wanted to be a tv host (late night)--my calling is helping people see the big picture.

I don't want
another foster kid to kill themselves, like my friend did at 18, because they had no love or was abused,
I don't want no foster kid or former foster kid to be "depressed, homicidal or suicidal-
I want no one to feel the pain I felt when my mother never came back,
when my foster brothers abused me
and when my brother died and I felt like I had no one left but my kids, (which is alot)....

I want Everyone who leaves foster care to leave feeling empowered,
grateful to be alive and share their wisdom, as to save or change a life, knowing that we are blessed because we could have been Lisa Steinberg or the baby aborted or thrown in the trash....
I want Everyone to ENJOY THIS LIFE, now, knowing that you are special, loved and if you ENJOY you and THIS life....and help a few others on the way....it was all worth it!

Please vote for me, I don't care about the fame, recognition on a personal note, I only want to change the face of foster care, so that every child in care or leaving knows, they can do it too!!

I love all of you who have come to this site, you are special, loved and remember to smile, you may save, change or help a life today!!

health care crises, imagine what happens when you age out!

Hi blog family!
This blog could be seen as venting, but it is out of love for you I vent. Dental care in this country is a nightmare, and I experienced it first hand today!!

I am in need of dental work and went to several dentist in the area to see if I could work out a payment plan, because the plan i could afford.....sent me to dental quacks who had dirty offices, on youtube for misconduct, no assistant...leaving my mouth to answer a phone and then try to come back to my mouth with the same gloves!!
Ok what happend to Universal healthcare??
I am on this subject because I was in tears thinking, if someone has a heart problem and was in foster care or just has no extra money or good insurance...you could die....
I know many people in this country do not have "Other resources to turn to for money in a health crises...what about those of us who use to be in foster care but we are over 30???
Is our life any less because of our situation?
 NOT!
I want to stress building resources and income for yourself so that you will not be put in this spot! Find ways to save for this type of occassion, and there will be many for most...
My child is covered under her fathers "good" insurance, but they want $250 deductable and me to pay $600 for copays....before the work is done!!! Do I get her work done first, they are permanent teeth...or do i take a chance on my cracked tooth and wisdom tooth hurting so bad my face hurts???
This is when your morals are tested, and they will be tested. For me, i live by honor and integrity, even if it means I don't get healthcare i need....
How is one to make a living honestly?
My heart goes out to the woman in Chappaqua who prostituted herself to earn money to "feed her kids" after her lawyer husband left her....
my heart goes out to the woman (first the child), who threw her child off a bridge....and then herself....because her husband left her and she felt she wanted to hurt him...
my heart goes out to all the young people selling drugs thinking they are making quick money....and last my heart goes out to those who work two and three jobs, leaving there kids home , only to still not make enough to get the healthcare they need...
In the end we all just want to survive and be happy. It is fustrating to be in "the best" country and not be able to get good healthcare, without selling your soul to the devil, stealing robbing or lying! What has this world come to when a "doctor" only thinks of his profits?
We must come up with a solution.  Keep your sanity, life is still worth it, even when we have to beg, borrow and pray!
THere is hope, in planning and saving, learning to live with less materialistic items in your life, learning to do preventive measures, like flossing, eating right, exercise...teach your children to eat right early and take care of their teeth, so that hopefully, they won't be stuck with no money for dentist...
